Elements of Competency Performance Criteria              
Element: Support health worker wellbeing.
  • Identify the different supervision needs of individual health workers dealing with client health and wellbeing issues.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality during all supervision activities.
  • Use culturally safe communication to encourage workers to acknowledge and address personal impacts of work experiences.
  • Respond to issues raised by individual workers and their colleagues with sensitivity and professionalism and according to organisational procedures.
  • Provide workers with information and guidance about self-care strategies and sources of professional assistance.
  • Identify situations of imminent risk to the health and safety of the worker or others and make appropriate referrals for crisis intervention.

  • Schedule debriefings that relate to specific incidents in a timely way.
  • Provide a safe environment for the debriefing process.
  • Guide health workers through a process of self-reflection and review of key issues.
  • Use questioning techniques that encourage workers to explore and acknowledge their concerns.
  • Document and report debriefing outcomes according to organisational procedures.

  • Provide feedback which reinforces strengths and sensitively addresses the potential for change.

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.

When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts.
